On June 21, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., a concert will take place at the Grand Collectif de Bioux in Mâcon, a project I’ve been working on since last summer. It will be the culmination of a long residency with the Orchestre Symphonique de Mâcon, conducted by David Hurpeau, with the support of the City of Mâcon and Mâcon Habitat.
Featuring sound transitions I designed, and incorporating, among other elements, recordings of local residents and sounds from the neighborhood, this one-of-a-kind project, which celebrates the 70th anniversary of this iconic city building, not only revisits my concept of the augmented concert but also introduces an unprecedented spatial dimension, with several musicians performing from the building’s balconies.
The concert will feature the world-premiere of two pieces I composed: Oïkophōnía for symphony orchestra, voice, and electronics, a four-movement, 16-minute piece in which I explore how shared living spaces are revealed through sound (particularly in the last movement, where trap music, resident outbursts and orchestra merge to evoke nighttime disturbances) and Euphōnía, a shorter piece for two spatialized trumpets and two horns with electronics.
